Project 365 – Day 10

Hello again. I can’t believe we’re 10 days into this already. We had a silhouette challenge in our photography group this week and though I had a few indoor shots I was practicing with, I really wanted an outdoor silhouette. The weather was gloomy, overcast and snowy almost all week. Today was Saturday and the challenge ended on Sunday. I was beginning to think it just wasn’t going to happen.

Friday night, the kids & I camped out downstairs. We intended to camp out on the floor but we ended up all piling onto the two couches in the family room. They woke me up around 7:00AM, wanting to watch TV. I was still sleepy so I headed upstairs to my bedroom. As I passed through the living room I glanced out the window and what did I see? A beautiful sunrise without a cloud in the sky! Yet I hesitated. Sleepiness was weighing me down. I walked into the bathroom, brushed my teeth and debated whether or not I should just climb back into bed with my husband.

Alas! The sunrise won. I threw on my warmest gear (it was a whopping zero degrees outside!), grabbed my camera and headed out to the hill in the back yard.

Day 10 is a set of sunrise photos I was happy to capture to accomplish my outdoor silhouette goal!

10/365

About 7:15AM. The sun was still below the horizon.

Around 8:00AM, the sun rose above the horizon but was behind the house.

8:00AM. I changed position and caught the sun peaking around the house.

I was very happy with my first ever landscape silhouettes. I did learn that in order to get a truly dark and contrasting silhouette, it takes diligent effort and practice. I look forward to capturing more in the future!

Have you mastered the art of silhouettes?

Have a great day!
